Workshop for the month: BIG BEAUTIFUL CAPITALS
From the President: Since our April newsletter, we have had our election and installation of officers, and participated in Riverwalk. Thanks again to all of those who volunteered for that HOT project - tent, displays, artwork, sitting with booth, etc. Several members sold a few pieces and made some contacts.
Your new Board met this month to talk about the upcoming year and the ArtFest committee met to make plans for that October event. On behalf of all the Board, we would like to express our thanks for your entrusting us with the leadership of the SRAA for the 2010-2011 year. We hope that this coming year will be inspiring and creative, with your help.
PROFILE - This month’s artist was born in Houston, Texas and is primarily known for her fiber arts, but is creative in many other ways. She and her husband together have nine children, so Christmas is a busy time for them!!!! She is the daughter of a well-known and beloved portrait artist who visits NW Florida frequently and has taught several of our members. Our artist introduced the rest of us to the John Campbell art community in NC and has had the good fortune to take classes there and to teach a class in felting. By now you have probably figured out that this lady who is inspired by all of nature, and in particular, mountains, is our new vice-president, Lorraine Cathey. We welcome her to the “front table” for the coming year and look forward to the workshops she is lining up.
JUNE WORKSHOP- In April’s Newsletter, I shared with you the inspiration that Dulce, Raissa, Paige and I felt after taking a week-end workshop with Barbara Close (www.bzdesigns.com). So the four of us are going to share our excitement with all of you. This is NOT a calligraphy workshop. Don’t panic! We are going to show you how decorating a single uppercase letter can make a great design, notecard, etc.
Here are things we will use and we will have stuff to share so don’t worry about the whole list. Everyone needs some 90 lb. or lighter watercolor paper 8x10 or smaller, pencil, scissors, glue. Then we will use magazines, tissue paper, wallpaper samples, scrapbooking paper, small beads, gel pens, watercolor, colored pencils, rubber stamps, fine markers, stylus, decorative edge scissors.
Announcements: Don’t forget Jim Berry’s Reception at the Dragonfly Gallery on Thursday, June 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. You have to come just to see the new work he is producing – absolutely amazing.
Submissions to the Newsletter:
Please send me tidbits of info you would like to share – classes available other places, art shows, interesting websites, SALES, and, of course, pictures of your work.
Wishing you happy creating.......don’t let a day go by that you don’t CREATE something, even if it is just in your mind!!!!!!
