Upcoming Meeting Date: Saturday, July 9 a.m to whenever............
Workshop for the month: Open Studio Day
From the President: Wow, this summer is certainly a memorable one for heat. My poor tomatoes have just given up the ghost. Even with frequent rains and watering, this heat is killing them (literally!). Hope you are surviving.
For July and August, there will be no meeting. We will just "play" and create with each other. If there are any pressing committee reports, we will deliver those to you by email.
We were blessed with three new members in June: Steven Nisbet, Emeretta "Retta" Rudy, and Melinda Giron. All are watercolorists, although Melinda and Retta also do oil and acrylic. Retta recently moved here from Tallahassee and comes to us with a page-load of impressive credentials. If you have been to the Dragonfly Gallery in recent months, you will have seen Melinda’s works, one of which is a lovely sun porch with morning sun streaming in. Steven hails originally from New Zealand.
In the past eighteen months, we have been blessed with eleven new members. We are heartened by our art community growing with new faces and new experiences. We thank all of you for becoming a part of the SRAA family.
In the past ten days, we have experienced the loss of SRAA family and family members: Linda Koehler’s husband and Life Member Ruth Staples. Both had been in ill health. We extend our deepest sympathy to the families left behind.
Patti reminds us that our 2010-2011 dues are now due. Bring them to the meeting or mail them to her at 4790 Velsaquez, Pensacola FL 32504.
PROFILE - This month’s artist returns to us after several years absence, having moved to NC to get away from hurricanes. However, as with so many of us, grandchildren drew them back to the Gulf shores and even though they now live in Pensacola, she has come back to create with us. She is a quilter par excellence, but also does watercolor, gourd art and recycled art. Mother of four and grandmother of 8, she was born in Holmes County, FL and has lived in Mississippi and Virginia besides FL and NC. She is a lover of nature and tries to incorporate natural objects into many art forms. Paula Ernst is very welcomed back; many of us still have the fused quilts we made in her workshop years ago and we hope she will share her talents with us again in the future.
JULY WORKSHOP- Please bring the medium of your choice - either a work in process that you want to work on, or something you have been putting off starting. We will work together yet separately and inspire each other. PLEASE bring recent works, particularly batiks done in April or Big Beautiful Letters done after last month’s workshop for Artist Showcase time.
Announcements: If you knew Ruth Staples, and want to honor her family, her Visitation is at 5:30 PM Thursday at the Lewis Funeral Home in Milton and the Funeral is at 1:00 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church on Park Ave. on Friday.
Wishing you happy creating.......don’t let a day go by that you don’t CREATE something, even if it is just in your mind!!!!!!
